Hallmarks - Expanded
At the 2022 Copenhagen Aging Meeting 3, it was revealed that amalgamation of the ‘old’ and ‘new’ hallmarks of aging may provide a more comprehensive explanation of aging and age-related diseases, shedding light on interventional and therapeutic studies to achieve healthy, happy, and productive lives in the elderly.

Hallmarks of Aging
Increased tendency for DNA errors, mutations and damage
Gradual shortening of the protective caps at the ends of chromosomes
Changes in the instructions that signal genes when to turn on or off
Protein misfolding, damage, breakdown, and recycling problems
The body's declined ability to clean up and recycle damaged or unnecessary cell components
Imbalances in nutrient processing, potentially contributing to metabolic problems or obesity
Decline in the efficiency and reliability of these cellular power generators
Buildup of inactive, non-dividing cells, causing inflammation and harm to nearby healthy cells
Slower tissue repair, reduced regeneration, and vulnerability due to less efficient stem cells
Inefficient or disrupted cellular communication, challenging injury healing or disease defense
Persistent and harmful activation of the body's immune response, contributing to the aging process and diseases
Imbalance in the gut's microorganisms, contributing to health issues, gastrointestinal problems and chronic diseases
