Dysbiosis

Dysbiosis as a hallmark of aging is like an imbalance in the community of microorganisms living in your gut.

Inside your digestive system, there are trillions of tiny microorganisms, like bacteria and other microbes, that help with digestion and play a role in your overall health. When these microorganisms are in balance, they work together smoothly, much like a well-functioning community.

However, as we age, this balance can get disrupted, and certain harmful microbes may increase while beneficial ones decrease, like having some troublemakers move into a neighborhood and causing problems. This disruption in the microbial community, known as dysbiosis, can affect digestion, nutrient absorption, and even the immune system.

Dysbiosis is a way to describe this imbalance in the gut’s microorganisms that can occur with age, potentially contributing to various age-related health issues, including gastrointestinal problems and even some chronic diseases.
